YouTube Keyword Tool

Although we see lots of stories in the press about millionaire vloggers and Youtube celebrities, making money on YouTube can be quite difficult to achieve.  Obviously there is a lot of competition, and for every video you see with a million plus views there will be a million with virtually no views except perhaps the creator!

One thing is certain, for anyone to succeed they need a strategy – without one you’ll get nowever.    For internet marketers often SEO is the focus – using both Google and YouTube’s own search engine to bring targeted traffic to their channel.   This is actually a very good tactic but the implementation is crucial and can make the difference between success and failure.

The key to success is in the keywords that you target, it might look tempting to focus on phrases like ‘make money online’ or ‘lose weight’.  However the reality is that these keywords are extremely competitive and unless you want to spend years and thousands competing for rankings you’d be best advised to look elsewhere.   The smart marketers don’t compete for these keywords initially but use tools like a YouTube Keyword Search Volume tool to select keywords which are easier to rank for.  Here’s one in action –

As you can see, this tool is capable of discovering keywords which are very easy to rank for any niche. Simply type in some ‘seed’ keywords and the tool will first search for suggested keywords along with their estimated traffic and cost per click rating. After that when you click the ‘get competition’ button you will see a list of the potential competition against each keyword.

It looks complicated but it’s actually quite simple, the ‘competition’ number refers to the number of videos which have been optimised for those keywords. The definition of competition in this instance is those videos with either the keyword in the title or description. This represents the very basics of YouTube SEO and if a video doesn;t have the keyword in the the title then it’s unlikely it will rank for that keyword.

In practice this tool creates a list of keywords with virtually no competition within YouTube. Simply select any keyword with a decent amount of monthly searches – perhaps 400+, and zero competition. Then create a video based on that keyword – put the keyword in the title and description and then you should rank highly in YouTube for that phrase.
