How to Make Your Niche Blog Successful

If you are a newbie blogger and want to use a successful strategy to make your niche blog effective, then this article will provide you with wonderful tips. This is because it discusses a few tips to make your niche blog successful.

See What Other Bloggers are Doing: Browse through some other blogs in your niche, especially the most successful ones, and see what they have to teach you. What do these blogs offer their readers in terms of features, content, appearance and so forth? It’s helpful to observe what these leading blogs are doing, and how they’re fulfilling the needs of their readers and subscribers. You ultimately want to create your own unique niche blog, but what others have done can inspire you and get the creative juices flowing. You should never have the attitude that you know everything you need to know about blogging, and constantly seeing what you can pick up from others can ensure that you’re always open to new information.

Ensure that the Design is Relevant: The first thing that your blog visitors notice is the design. Do you think that your blog design and niche are properly matched?

Is it a good fit for your selected topic? Does your design resonate the main elements of your niche? By keeping your blog’s design relevant you’ll be able to instantly attract the attention of your visitors and get them interested in your content. If your blog design is not that great, then your visitors will not want to read your posts. If you’re using a WordPress blog, you should try to keep your theme as closely related to your targeted niche as possible. This is so that your visitors are instantly able to connect with your blog. Niche blogging has more to it than just writing niche content. It also has to do with producing the right blog design and making the readers feel comfortable.

Be Consistent: Producing a niche blog is just the first step. But, continuing to have regular updates is what will make you seem better than your competition. Writing consistently lets you give your readers focused content on a regular basis, without skimping on the quality. Your readers will look up to your blog when they are seeking any targeted information related to your niche. This is because they can count on your blog being updated. If you don’t maintain a level of consistency, your readers will have nothing to look forward to. Thus, you will notice a drop in the number of visitors you receive and your subscription rates.

Achieving success with any blogging venture is about being patient and persistent with your efforts until you reach the level of success you wanted.

Why Can’t I Rank For Those Keywords

I don’t consider myself an expert in anything, it’s a term that is devalued by the host of self proclaimed experts we meet every day. However in SEO I have some knowledge having lived and breathed it for the last four years.  The one thing I’m learning is that you have to be flexible, what worked last month is useless if it doesn’t work now.  You can ask yourself why can’t I rank for those keywords – but if you’re using outdated SEO tactics then you already have the answer.

It is difficult, some techniques that worked very well a few months ago are now at best useless – so the best information is up to date. But my latest keyword ranking attempt is working very well – here’s a summary.

I’m not going to give you exact details as I don’t need the competition but the information I hope is useful.   I have a blog which I have developed over the last few years, original quality posts, all 700 words long, licensed graphics, great links and some serious traffic.   It makes quite a lot of cash and is up there as an authority in it’s field.  Generally in a related post it will rank pretty well with minimal effort.  Obviously this encouraged me to look for keywords with lots of traffic I could rank for.

After spotting a nice two word phrase that seemed easy to achieve I wrote a post and started promoting heavily, a few weeks later I’d scraped up in to page 2 but was getting a lot of traffic.  Enter the Panda Google algorithm change and my site was hit bad – content wise it was top notch but it suffered from the legacy of several years of SEO promotion.  Anyway this keyword phrase was lost to me after the update.

On looking at a couple of failing sites I noticed that many of the top spots were taken by hopeless sites with EMDs – that is the keyword in question existed in the domain.  Exact Match Domains as of July 2011 are working very, very well. I bought a related EMD – it wasn’t a great one but it worked – basically the{keyword}.com – just added ‘the’ to the domain name.   A few posts and a small backlinking campaign later and my cheap EMD domain was outranking my authority site and bringing in loads of traffic.

If you have identified a keyword combination you like and can make money on I urge you to check out available domains.  If you hit lucky they can accelerate passed established sites with ease.  It is said they are next on the Google hit list so buy, promote and exploit while you can!

For tough keywords, search for domains on – you can get a free trial initially for 10 days.  Look for ones with Google Page rank, lots of visitors and DMZ membership if possible.  Don’t discount the others though.  At the moment EMD looks like a great solution to the problem of why I can’t rank for those keywords.  Who know’s how long it will last.  I’m fully expecting my cheap Exact Match Domain to die any day soon but at the moment it is gaining more and more traffic!

Social Bookmarking in Plain English for SEO

If you’ve spent any amount of time researching ways to promote your website you have probably come across the term social bookmarking.   There’s no doubt it plays an important role and can indeed bring lots of targeted traffic to your site but how can the average webmaster harness the power.

First of all let’s clarify what exactly social bookmarking is and I’ll try and use some semblance of plain English to explain it.   The more you browse the web, the more sites you wish to revisit.  Of course your browser has the facility to store favorites or bookmark sites but most find this quickly becomes unmanageable.    There is also another problem these favorites are normally stored on your local computer – so log in some where else and you’ve lost them.  The answer was the social bookmarking sites, which are very basically websites which store and sort all your personal favorite sites.

Stumbleupon - Social Bookmarking Site

StumbleUpon - Leading Social bookmarking Site

Here’s one of the most popular called StumbleUpon and you can see just a brief snapshot of how it stores website, video, articles and anything that is stored on the web.

The idea is that you can access this bookmarking list wherever you are and from any computer it will always be accessible.  You can also sort and manage these bookmarks using categories and tags which can be used to group similar sites together.

But there’s another crucial word involved in these sites particularly from the SEO perspective and that’s ‘social‘. This refers to the fact that your sites can be seen, viewed and rated by other users.

Your bookmark is not only a reference to a favorite website of yours, it is also a recommendation to thousands of other users of that particular social bookmarking site.

This is a very powerful indicator of the quality of the site you are listing.  It is also an indicator to the search engines which is why social bookmarking is used for SEO is now an important part of site promotion.  Imagine the search engines are desperately looking for ways to discover whether a site is useful, popular or interesting to it’s readers.  A site that is popular in these social bookmarking sites is going to generally do well in the search rankings as well.

So what does a webmaster do to bring in this traffic and search engine love to their web site?   Obviously there’s limited advantage in going around creating your own bookmarking accounts and rating your own web pages.  For a start they’ll be identified as all coming from  the same person (based on a duplicate IP address) and you’ll likely get your account downgraded or closed.

What you need to do is to raise awareness of your wonderful website (it is wonderful isn’t it?), so you need other people to rate, rank and comment on your pages through their own bookmarking sites.  There are many ways of doing this, quite a few social bookmarking software can be bought, some groups have set up co-operatives who bookmark each others sites.  All of these can work but usually are so time consuming that they are not worth the effort, also if you leave a pattern behind then it can all be in vain.

So for SEO purposes, it is important that other people promote your web pages and also that any method is relatively automated and simple.   Now I’ve tried most of them the bookmarking software like bookmarking demon, socialbot (not good) and a few others.  The groups worked better because their was real people bookmarking your site but it ended up taking so long was not really scaleable.  There was only one that did the job with the absolute minimum of fuss and that’s a program called SocialAdr – it’s in a different league from anything out there.

If you buy one of the subscriptions it can create hundreds of links, plus Tweets on your websites automatically – just like clockwork week in week out.  The Free Version also works well but with a little more effort and is a good way of seeing how impressive the systems is.

Whether you have the budget or not – I urge you to try out the Free version of Social Ad – at worst it will create loads of social bookmarking links to your website with little effort.  If you like it – it could form the basis of your SEO efforts – it’s an incredible system.

Duplicate Anchor Text – A Very Bad Idea Now

Ever since I started in SEO some years ago, lot of the more aggressive SEO consultants have proclaimed the importance of maintaining a consistent anchor text.  So for instance if you wanted to rank for ‘fluffy white pillows” – you would endeavor to build as many links back to your site as possible with the anchor text ‘fluffy white pillows’ and nothing else.  Now there’s no doubt that this method worked although I’ve always had a bad feeling about it.

Let’s be honest if you’re looking at building natural inbound links to your site, then they wouldn’t all have the identical anchor text would they?  No of course not they would come with all sorts of anchors – press here, here, click this, check this out etc, etc.

Of course you would get some with ‘fluffy white pillows’ but nowhere near hundred percent.  Well with the latest Panda updates it looks like Google is cracking down on this – there are loads of reports of sites plummeting down the SERPs due to having near 100% identical anchor texts.

I have been varying my anchor texts for quite a while now but many of my pages with the duplicate problem tanked quite dramatically.   The new algorithm clearly took this into account and if you had pages ranking without a variety of anchor text links then you’ll likely have the same problem.

Fortunately this particular SEO problem seems reasonably easy to fix as long as you don’t have too many links.  Simply start building up a more natural linking profile, write some articles and build ‘click here links’ or ones with just your bare URL.  It seems to be that when you start reducing from that high percentage duplicate anchor penalty your rankings can come back fairly easily. It’s worked on the two sites I’ve tried it on so far !!

Of course needless to say this is also the case with all on-page SEO optimising as well, we know that if you over use your keyword on a page or highlight fluffy white pillows in bold every three lines whilst adding it in to every title then you’re unlikely to rank at all.

It’s always about making it look like you have no knowledge of SEO techniques in order to  rank highly.  But the more that Google tweaks it’s algorithm to look for these rather obvious signs then the harder we have to try to look natural!!  So remember if you’re not already doing so much sure you vary that anchor text.

How to Develop a Successful Home Business Mindset

A successful home business will make money, and that will take proper thinking. Some people are good at starting a project, but not good at finishing, and a home business will take time to build. This article is about the attitudes that have made many business owners successful, and why you should learn from them. Having a positive attitude is imperative to your success, and there are many books, articles, and programs about self-improvement. Avoiding negativity quite often means staying away from people who have bad attitudes, even family members. Discouragement can come from many places, but usually it is from those who are close to you. Even when you watch TV programs or the news, you can learn how to be negative.

Procrastination is something you need to conquer if you want to succeed with your home based business. Procrastination can mean a lot of things including apparently keeping busy but not generating any results. Reading comments made by people in your field as well as their forum posts and sales letters will not help you generate more sales or pick up more customers or leads, but you will have the impression that you are actually working on your business. You have to make sure that you are really working on things that will improve your business and not wasting time when you are at your desk, whether you are on your computer or on the phone.

Here’s a simple program that you can probably use to get started straight away – it’s video making software online and you can basically produce quality videos to upload to Youtube in minutes. I urge you to watch the demonstration =

Many people choose their home based business because they think it’s going to be profitable. While this is quite logical, it is also critical that you pick something you are interest in and are knowledgeable about. You will find it extremely difficult to spend hours every day working on something that’s boring to you. When you are in business for yourself you need to be able to self-motivate yourself, because you can’t watch the minutes pass by like you would if you were working for someone else. It’s much easier to do this when you are working on something you love. So you need your business to be in tune with your interests, which will give you a better chance of success.

Building relationships with potential customers is essential as is making new contacts and networking. You want to network properly and not annoy people. We’ve all encountered people who are in MLM or network programs that have irritated family in friends by trying to get them to buy the products they are selling. You need to be ready to promote your business at any time but it has to be with the right people and at the right time, no matter whether you are doing it on the phone, in person or online.

So, with the right psychology you can move your home business much further along. It has a major effect on the way you spend your time and what goals you set. It can be hard for some people to leave the world of being an employee to being an entrepreneur while some can do it without having any issues. The suggestions provided in this article can help you learn how to act and think like a successful business entrepreneur.

Positive SEO Practices for Your WordPress Blog

Since WordPress comes as a complete package with everything ready, making it very easy to create a blog. There are certain things you will need to remember, though, when trying to get your WordPress blog ranked in the search engines, like:

Use a sitemap for Google when launching your blog as this will play a major role in how well and quickly your site is ranked. It’s easy to add to a WordPress blog and very much worth the effort. Sitemaps simply make it simpler for the search engines like Google to find their way around your site. It’s like an easy to read overview of all the different pages on your site, which is something highly important as far as SEO is concerned. Google offers the Google XML sitemaps plugin which makes installation of Sitemap on your WordPress site as simple as possible. So you don’t have to do anything manually, the plugin will do all the hard work for you and automatically update each time you add a new page to your site. The SEO benefits of Sitemaps are amazing and worth every minute you spend working on it and more – don’t miss out!

Activate Trackbacks: When you log in to WordPress, you will find an area referred to as Trackbacks, that features a long list of blogs, especially those that have already linked to you. If you find that trackbacks is disabled on your WordPress, make sure you enable it because it encourages others to link to your blog and gets you quality backlinks from other relevant blogs. Trackbacks make it easy for people to gain incoming links, and since backlinking is a highly important part of SEO, you need to take action and get as many links as possible.

Customize Slugs for Each Post: When you’re writing a post for your WordPress site, you’ll find a field called Slug that is located just below the title of the your post, which is what determines the address of the article you’re posting. Using the same keywords in the META data, content, and title of your page will let the search engines see that your page is consistently focused on that specific keyword of phrase. WordPress does a lot for you to make search engine optimization a simple matter but it can’t actually go in and do the proper placement of keyword for you – that doesn’t mean it isn’t important.

Once you start working on your WordPress site in terms of SEO, you’ll see a big shift in traffic as you get ranked for your targeted keywords. Just focus on quality content and proper SEO to see long term results.

How to Quickly Increase Your Website’s Page Rank

Page rank is the single most important determining factor that will determine the success or failure of a blog or website. Google has a ranking system they’ve developed on their own to determine where various websites fall within the search results and they use very specific information to determine this. To land on the first page in Google’s search results a site must have a fairly high page rank. These steps will help you figure out what you need to do next in order to boost the page rank of your website.

One of the best ways to raise your site’s page rank is with article marketing. Article directories such as and are high PR sites and are great places where you can publish your articles; as long as you’re providing value through your articles, they will get approved. All article directories have different rules. Prior to submitting an article to any article directory, make sure you read their terms of service.

Don’t lose the chance to work with an article directory through an innocent mistake you made because you didn’t read the site’s rules. Article marketing is a tried and true method of increasing your site’s page rank so be sure to play within the rules.

Start creating contacts in your industry; build relationships with other website owners and bloggers. Once these other website and blog owners recognize that you’re there to bring value to the table they’ll be more than willing to send a few links in your direction. The fact that many of your competitors in the business will skip this particular step means that you’ll be miles ahead of most of them for getting those backlinks and the credibility that comes with it. This step is about so much more than creating healthy competition and friendly rivalries.

Create a contest for your site that will award a prize to other webmasters and bloggers who link to you. This is very underused because either people don’t use it or because they don’t actually feel comfortable putting it into play. But if you apply it, you’ll see a swarm of backlinks coming to your site for the relevant keyword just because of a simple contest that you started. Google dominates a major portion of the internet and that is why making sure that your site ranks well in its engines is good for the overall levels of your traffic. As you put more work into the page rank of your site you will see more and more people visiting your pages and, with any luck, your sales conversion ratio will improve as well! So why are you still reading? Start applying these newly learned methods right away, because the longer you take to do it, the more difficult it gets.

Boosting the Rate at Which Your Website is Crawled

The crawl rate for a given website means how fast Google’s bots come back to check for updates and new content. There are plenty of different things that can have a big impact on website crawl rates. The one thing you need to take home after reading this article is just how important it is for the success of your website that it is crawled as often as possible. So, exactly how does a higher crawl rate benefit you as a website owner? The answer is more exposure – the higher number of times Google sends it’s spiders/bots to your site, the more often your pages get indexed and ranked.

When you take these steps to attract Google’s spider bots you’ll reap the reward in improved page rank and faster indexing of new content you’ve added.

Slow attracts slow so make sure your pages load quickly if you want crawlers to return to your site quickly. If you want Google bots to give your site some serious attention then you’re going to have to make sure they feel welcome and invited in quickly by boosting the load time for your pages. It only takes a few small tweaks to improve load times considerably. One way to do this is to eliminate all unnecessary images from your site. Reducing the page load time for your site with common sense tactics like this can get your site a lot more attention from Google and the other major search engines. If you want your website to appear professional and relevant to Google, then make sure you’re not overloading it with big and heavy pages. Keep the pages your site has on task and as small as possible. Keep the page size small whenever you have the opportunity to do so. If you’re using a content management system such as WordPress then see to it that there aren’t any unnecessary widgets on your blog that may hamper things. This is something that will not only impact the crawl rates of your site but also user appreciation by your visitors. When you hire someone to design your page it’s important to make your wishes known when it comes to page size and loading times.

The major search engines deeply dislike plagiarized material so avoid it on your site. Google in particular hates it. Using unique content on your site that isn’t seen elsewhere makes the big players in the search engine business much happier campers. If Google finds that you’re posting duplicate content, your site may get penalized and come down in ranking. With recent changes in the algorithm at Google there have been harsher consequences for sites that are using “rehashed” or copied content. But you need to do more than just add original content, the content you add must also provide value to your site.

Make your site as valuable to readers as you can and in the process you’ll find that you’ve made a good match for the search engines too. Now, what we discussed in the above article about increasing the crawl rate of your site is not just to get the Google bots to visit your site more, but it’s also about adding more value to your site in terms of usability. This will not only help the Google spiders, but it will also make your site more approachable to your visitors.

Local SEO – All You Need to Know

Local SEO has become a very popular marketing tactic because of the response it provides to business owners. Given below are a few local SEO tips that can help you along the way.

The best way to start out with local SEO is to imagine that you are one of your prospects using a search engine. You need to get into their shoes to truly understand the essence of SEO. The trick is to imagine that you were someone doing a search engine query for a product you are marketing, and consider what words you would most likely search for. Let’s say that you have a store that exclusively sells golf accessories. Many people search for the term “golf,” but this doesn’t describe what you sell, as it includes too many things If someone does a search for “golf courses,” they are not looking for what you are selling either. Someone who enters “golf accessories,” though, is a likely customer for your store, so this is the kind of keyword to be focusing on. There are many good keyword that can create sales but are not quite as well known, and these are usually ignored by business owners looking for local traffic. They tend to target the same keywords everyone else is trying to rank for, the very top ones with the most traffic.

You have to learn how to think like a customer because this is exactly what helps you in the long term. Your ability to find targeted keywords will improve with practice, and you’ll find more customers and you will eventually be able to rank for a variety of relevant keywords. Most of the local websites out there have no problem with business owners asking clients and customers to post reviews (Yelp is one of these sites). Since this is an allowable practice and your local SEO can benefit from it why not start doing it? Make sure you let your clients know about this in as many ways as you possibly can. You need to say something like “It would be nice if you would take a moment to review my business on this local website.” Even though you won’t be able to control the content and you cannot ask for them to be favorable or harsh, they will add credibility and make you look more reliable to your potential clients. No matter what else you try to do, make sure you use this one tip because it has the potential to help you grow your business by leaps and bounds.

Another tip to remember is that you must have your address included on all your site’s pages. This always impresses the search engines and they’ll rank you higher. What does this include? You’ll need your business address, your telephone number and you’ll always want to make sure to list your zip code on every page your site has. This will reveal that you’re going after local search and that’s when your job becomes simple. In conclusion: local search engine optimization requires more work from you but it pays off later on when you are better able to reach your target market.  It’s just one strand of SEO marketing but when it’s done right can be one of  the most effective, plus you get the chance to help real businesses local to you succeed.
