Highlights of the BBC – Test Match Special Outside UK

Many years ago, I saved up ready to spend on my dream holiday – watching cricket in the Caribbean. After years of listening to descriptions of CMJ and Boycott strolling down some sun swept beach to a cricket stadium seemingly on the shoreline to the sounds of calypso music – I hoped finally it would be my turn. Unfortunately it didn’t work out, a series of rising expenses – can you believe my wife wanted to come too (and my children!) and some vacation issues spoiled my dream.

So I have returned to the next best option which is going somewhere sunny, sitting on a lounger with a cocktail and test Match Special on the radio. Except it doesn’t work, you think you can tune in your radio and pick up TMS (Test match Special) on long wave or better still just point a browser to the BBC iPlayer web site but you’ll be disappointed. All the TV stuff and the majority of the radio stations don’t work outside the UK, they check your IP address and stop all non-UK ones.  There are occasionally a TMS overseas link posted on on the BBC channel which has Test match special live Youtube footage but it’s fairly erratic and not always guaranteed.

How to Listen to Test Match Special Outside UK

It seems very unfair, after all I pay for my TV license which presumably funds not only the programmes but the website itself.  So why should’t I be able to listen to TMS abroad 2017 or even in 2018. Yet if I dare to step outside the United Kingdom it all stops working, no access at the point when I really need it most. There were plans afoot to stop this ridiculous situation, the EU are promoting the establishment of a fair digital market which allows access across geographic borders but I suppose Brexit has put a stop to that. So we’re left with a stupid situation that is pervasive across the world – leave your home county and most of your favorite web sites stop working.

It can be fixed, of course it can – there’s always a workaround on the internet, yet it does cost money. You just need to hide your IP address by redirecting through a VPN service which hides your location – something like this – http://bbciplayerabroad.co.uk/. This doubles up as a security service, to protect your logon credentials when using unknown wifi connections, but also allows the user the ability to sidestep all these stupid region locking attempts. Here’s basically how it’s done, although this demonstrates how to watch TV stations it can also be used to listen to all radio stations including 5 Live sports Extra abroad too.

It’s quite simple really, instead of your computer directly connecting to the website in question (let’s say the BBC for this example), it goes to the VPN server first. This connection is completely encrypted and so your data is safe but also any connection then appears to come from the VPN server not your computer. So the location of the VPN server is important not you, and the best providers have established a global network of these servers all in different countries. So if you want to access the BBC then you choose a UK based VPN, want some US only site like Hulu then choose one based in the USA and so on.

That’s it really, how to listen to Test match special in Europe or indeed anywhere else in the world as long as you have a decent internet connection.  It works on all sorts of devices and is the perfect way to access a TMS or BBC Radio 5 live stream or any other TV or radio station.

Can I Watch BBC News Streaming Abroad ?

Many years ago it was very difficult to keep up with the news when you were travelling or on holiday.  I remember vividly being so desperate to find out what was going on in the UK one year that I spent about £8 for a newspaper that was 4 days late and worth less than a tenth of that, worst still it was the Daily Mirror.

Nowadays of course we don’t have these problems, the internet has pretty much changed all this.  Unless you’re travelling seriously off the beaten track you’ll never be far from a Wi-fi connection so all you need is a tablet, phone or laptop and you’ll be completely connected.  It’s the same with running a digital business, there’s really no desperate requirement to be based anywhere – invest in decent laptop and you can work from anywhere you like.

Here’s How – BBC News Streaming Abroad

There are still some caveats and the growing trend of region locking is one of them.  This is the practice where a web site will restrict access based on your location – this practice is extremely common and growing all the time unfortunately.   It is why if you connect to the BBC website from the UK you will be able to watch virtually all TV shows live and older programmes through the BBC iPlayer. If you connect from another country then you’ll not be able to see any of this content at all.   There is a method however that you can watch BBC News live online from anywhere – just watch this video.

Here we can see that you can actually bypass these various region blocks by hiding your location from the websites you visit. I consider this fair game after all I pay my not unsubstantial UK TV license so why should the website be unavailable to me just because I decide to have a few days in the sun on my holidays. There are a few cut down versions on the BBC international site but there’s no BBC News live video like on the UK based one.

The video above shows you how to use what’s called a VPN (Virtual Private Network) to hide your real location enabling you to access whatever site you wish. The program demonstrated also allows you to switch to other locations for example any website normally restricted to the US or Canada you just switch to another server in that location. Many people ask if it’s illegal however it’s certainly not after all a VPNs are used across the world to provide security and encrypted connections and if I wish to use the bonus of being able to watch BBC World News streaming then that’s entirely my affair.

The reality is that many millions use these methods to access BBC Live TV and other UK TV channels. In the example as long as you use a UK server you can watch any UK only service irrespective or where you’re located. I primarily use it for the BBC One Live stream outside UK, but also watch Sky News live as well. remember though you’ll still need subscriptions for those sort of sites.

For radio lovers it also opens up the full selection of BBC News live radio stations including all the local stations like BBC Wales, BBC North West and so on.  These are great for keeping up with local news from your area and they also usually have great local football coverage too.  So if you’re missing your local team, try the BBC local radio stations they cover hundreds of matches live every season.

The only consequences are potentially if you use these services to access content on sites like Netflix who clearly state in their terms of services that you should use proxies or VPNs. However millions of people do despite Netflix being one of the most aggressive in blocking the use of IP switching programs – I’ll post again about this.

There are quite a few different VPN services available which can be used in this way.  However many have been blocked by the BBC who try to dissuade people from accessing BBC live stream from outside the UK.   Our recommendation is Identity Cloaker one of the first commercially available VPN services which has been used by thousands to access all the BBC online content including the BBC News world.

Pinterest and Automation – Is it an Internet Marketers Dream?

Good day fellow marketers, this post is the introduction to a series of posts about the next big thing in Social media marketing – Pinterest.  For many marketers it could turn out to be the killer social media site, for others just a very valuable promotional tool.  Over the next few weeks I hope to help you utilise this amazing site. It can be used to promote your blog, create a brand or just drive lots of traffic to your website. In any case it’s not something you can ignore as currently it’s the third most popular social network behind Twitter and Facebook.

At the moment the value of Pinterest to you, will really depend on the niches you target.  The site is huge and growing fast, but it’s current base is women – especially in the 25-44 year old demographic.  If you browse through the site you’ll notice that a large proportion of it looks to be similar to the pages of a womens magazine.

If you’re promoting any product that would appeal to women aged 25 to 45 then you’d be insane to miss out on this opportunity.  For the rest of us – simply the huge number of visitors and  the viral feel of Pinterest makes it difficult to avoid.

The explosion of this social media site has only just happened, it’s a fantastic time to get aboard.  I’ve been looking around and predictably there are lots of Pinterest spamming tools starting to appear.  I’d stay clear of most of these – the vast majority of Pinterest users are web savvy young to middle aged women, highly automated boards are going to fail miserably – even if your software has created 1000s of them!  There’s only one which looks to be a genuine time saver which is more of a Pinterest automation tool, if you use it sensibly it will be a very good investment – Pinterest Marketing Software.

It’s time for creativity and to put some genuine fun into marketing.  So to start off I would like you all to just sign up and embrace the concept – share some cool pictures – but don’t market your business yet!!!

  • Setting Up a Pinterest Account
  • Got to http://www.pinterest.com/
  • Click on the “request an invite” button
  • Type in your email address and then hit the blue button
  • Just wait for your instructions

By the way if you have a friend who is already using Pinterest then ask them to invite you – it can be much quicker.  I’ll be adding some tips and tricks about the images that seem to be very effective on this site over the next week or two – so check back soon.
