Hi Annie,

One of the most important factors of how a page ranks with Google is how many links it has pointing to it. So each and every link has value.
When you put a link out to another website - you are in fact voting for that page with some of the value of your site.

There's nothing wrong with this if you think the page is good, however if you don't want Google to value this link (perhaps it's an advert pointing at Amazon or something) then you should use a tag called 'no follow' in your link.

So each time you link to a page you are using some of the reputation of that page to vote for someone else. You should try and use some of the power of that page to link to other pages on your own site (and so boost their link juice).

There's nothing wrong with linking out to other sites if they add value, but you should avoid sending 'links' or 'votes' for too many sites.
It is surmised by SEO experts that page has a limited amount of 'link juice' and a little part is used up on every outbound link you use.

So for instance on the side of this page there are links to recent posts on this site - which is sending a little bit of the power (or link juice) of this page to each of them. Whereas any adverts I wouldn't want to send any link juice to so would add the rel="no follow" tag to the link. This stops it passing any value to that page.

Hope that makes some sort of sense.

Hi Steve,

Nice site - you're doing well, excellent start and some great products!

You've asked me a difficult question to be honest! I can't recommend any SEO companies I'm afraid as I've never used one - as I've always do my own SEO.

I don't personally do SEO for any other companies anymore - basically because I make more doing my own sites.

But I will help you get started if you like - post here if you would like me to and I'll drop you an email.

SEO is not hard it just takes work :)

Hi, I am setting up an ecommerce website as you can see via the link, I thought I'd give it a go myself but think I'm a little out of my depth, I was hoping you could point me in the right direction with someone or a company who could do my SEO for me as this is the most important part of my business and want to get it off to a good start.

I look forward to your reply,

Many thanks,
Steve.
